Coming in hot!

On June 23, 2012 I got the chance to shoot some fantastic dirt riders (bmx, mtb) at Stephen Murray's Trails is Shouting Jam.

Illuminated @ Nola's

I want to first of all thank all my friends for your support. It was great to see familiar faces at the show and had a fantastic time. A special thanks goes out to Carter for all of his help (love you)!

Illuminated @ Nola's Restaurant was my first show where I painted live! I was nervous to begin with but the other artist were super supportive friendly and made me feel at ease (thanks guys). So I set up started to paint and got lost in the atmosphere. The event was fantastic with live music, great food and people. Even though I had a cold painting for a evening in front of others was fun and would def. do it again. It was great to hear the response of people liking my work as I painted. Below are a few pictures taken by Alondra of the Event. Enjoy.

P.S. I have yet to finish the painting but I am def. liking its start.

I will be participating in the first of many ILLUMINATED art show. Along with some amazing artist I will be painting live and selling some of my prints for the first time.

I'm very excited to show of some new pieces. Currently I've been working on a series of watercolor/illustrations of skeleton art mixed in with botanical flowers. The thought behind these pieces is to reinforce the beauty of life as it goes through its process from beginning to end.

Check out my latest design for Black Market Bikes. This is a 24x18" poster folded down to a brochure. This is the fastest print job I've done. 1 full day turnaround from creating the explosion to laying out copy and sending out to print.

Brain Power Level : LOW

This week has been an awesome work week. With six days ( I do mean 6) of basically 24hrs a day of work my designer power level is dangerously low.

Design goodness this week included designs for web banners, candle packaging, wireframes and software ui. I'm still pushing pixels and loving it.

I Heart design in all shapes and forms. :-)

Lately I've been working on some illustrations and have been using a combination of Abode Illustrator and old school sketching. Today I find myself on the drawing table enjoying the good old fashion pencil and paper format and had to share.

Sketchbook : War

Here is the first illustration in the my book. I've decided to fill this book with Mayan symbols and embellish them with modern iconic imagery to better define its meaning. This symbol represents war in the Mayan language (to be "taken down" in terms of War).

What's in the works...

It's been some time since I posted, but I've been busy on other random projects. I've been experimenting with paint markers and watercolors which I am not accustomed to using. Plus other types of paper material. While doing so I decided to sign up for this sketchbook project by Art House Co-op. They have put together this tour (as they like to call it) where artist submit their sketchbook and the book goes on displayed in different cities. When the tour is over the books will live in the Brooklyn Library forever. Pretty exciting.


So here I am with a blank sketchbook with nothing but possibilities. The game plan is on and I hope to show you my progress soon. The theme of my book is Secret Code... OH HOW FUN!!!!

Phranc

It is official, I'm a fan of folk music. I've always had an appreciation for it after reading the Woody Guthrie biography back in high school, and my teacher playing one of Woody's album for us. Now after seeing a few shows live I really enjoy the story telling and comical interaction with the audience. I've just returned from listening to Phranc and I'm a new fan. I enjoyed her music and the lyrics are just fantastic. My friend Kevin invited me to the show at McCabe's Guitar Shop and I want to go back again. Excellent evening.

Thanks again Kev. for introducing me to something pretty awesome. Ruby join us next time! :-)

United Zoo Studios Launch

Early this year Brenda and I decided to launch a new venture. We started working together with our Photo Phridays group and had such a great time that we decided to join up and take it more seriously. We launched our phase 1 site on January 27, 2010. We will be concentrating on product photography, headshots and retouching as well as commercial work. Don't worry though we still plan on having some fun with our Photo Phriday group. To all of our friends who have participated in getting us here, thank you very much you are all terrific!
