Working

Working, originally uploaded by susisco.

I started working around 11pm on 12/29/07. I have to say it is just wonderful putting on some music in the middle of the night and painting away. I love the silence of the night and I guess now early morning since it's now 1:26am on 12/30/07. This is the time I feel more at peace and relaxed.

Art Piece: Not relaxed, a little angry actually, oh well

My music this evening started off w/ some BEBE (MALO CD), Paul Simon (Graceland) and now CCR (the best of).

Hollywood

Axl Rose?, originally uploaded by susisco.

Thanks to Tina and her friend I had a fun Sunday driving/walking around Hollywood. I had to share this photo to show the wonderful diversity of Los Angeles. Last week I put up Santa Monica boardwalk guy w/skateboard. Super "cool" dude, now I have to show you Hollywood. Here we get the leather jacket, motorcycle riding "superstar". I love that we came across this guy w/the Axl Rose jacket whose bike died on him. He was on top of a flat bed tow truck. Absolutely love it.

Santa Monica

06_skateBoard, originally uploaded by susisco.

I love LA. Really I do. It drives me crazy sometimes and people can be so self involved here but I just love how diverse and fun it can be. I went Sat. to Santa Monica to take some action shots for the photography class I'm taking and this is what I found. I'm not very good at taking action shots (good thing I'm taking the class) but I just had to post this because it is so LA.

Art Update:

I'm working on a new painting but I'm not happy w/it yet. Hopefully I will finish it this weekend and post. But then again I'm getting a wisdom tooth pulled out Thursday so we shall see how I feel after. Good Times.

PS: This post just gave me idea to do my inspirational play list. I might do that next. But for now I really need to get some rest.

Have a great one!

Photography Class

Elevator, originally uploaded by susisco.

I love happy accidents. Last week I started a photography class and have been taking pictures like crazy. I was on my way to lunch with camera on hand and was fooling around with settings and took this shot just for the hell of it. It is now my favorite.

Inner Peace...

hiddenFace

Back from Costa Rica. The trip was definitely too fast but I had a great time and am happy to have been able to go. My traveling partners were the best, had a super chill time with them and would love to travel with them again. Puerto Viejo was absolutely my favorite spot with its warm water beach that was practically my own (hardly anyone else around). I never felt so at peace then when I was at Puerto Viejo reading my book and listening to the ocean waves crashing and the birds in the background. I so didn’t want to leave that spot.

I’ve been hiding from the world since I got back not wanting to return to reality. I’ve kept my interaction with the computer to a minimum and ignoring my phone. Trying to keep my high from the trip because come Monday the routine starts again and my inner peace will be disturbed. I miss the green and the blue of Costa Rica (okay chilling and enjoying nature instead of being stuck in front of a computer 24/7).

PAINTING INFO:
Oil Painting 16x20"

The trip seems to have been good for me; I got another painting out this weekend. Hidden face is a self portrait of me trying to hide. Maybe I should call this one inner peace disturbed. My coworker says I need to be more creative with naming my paintings. I just don’t care for that part. Call them what you want and see what you want out of them. I already did my part.

All packed and ready to go!

All Packed, originally uploaded by susisco.

I'm off to Costa Rica!

Finally a vacation, no computer no work and hopefully some adventure and rest. I hope this trip gets me inspired to design and paint some new stuff. Lately I am drawing a blank w/my graphic design and my personal artwork. All work and no play finally has left me zonked and uninspired.

One other good thing about this trip I will be back on a bike. Some of you know how much I love cyling and am very excited to do this RailBike Tour. 24 miles or so traveling on a rail road track through Costa Rica, that's my kind of fun. The rest of trip I plan on just going w/the flow and see what kind of trouble I can get into ;-).

Have a great week!

woman

woman, originally uploaded by susisco.

For some weird reason I seem to only be able to start my paintings using some sort of ochre yellow tones. Even if I originally plan on using a different color I can't seem to get away from the yellow.

This is a small oil painting done on a piece of cardboard from a shoe box or something, don't remember exactly from where.

Greg

I started this painting of my friend a while ago. I'm happy to say I finished it, finally. Now if it resembles him I don't know anymore, I looked at his mug for so long It all started to look the same.

What I used:
Oil on canvas, 16x20.

Hardest part:
Knowing when to stop or keep going

This is actually the most realistic painting I've ever done.

Silent Woman

silent woman, originally uploaded by susisco.

So I've been playing around with watercolors and I'm starting to dig them. I like that they are fast and I still can create vibrant colors. This lady is an image in my head that keeps coming up. I did a very small sketch of her a while back and decided to draw her up in color. ( I need to practice more) I don't want to write my reasons for drawing her she just is. Make up your own .

A WHITE MAN

whiteMan, originally uploaded by susisco.

The graphic today was inspired by a white man in the elevator. Tonight as my friend and I left work and got into the parking garage elevator a white man catches the elevator with us. He looked to be around six feet tall older(I’m 4’11” and my friend is around 5’ 4”) profession man. So this tall slender man stood right smack in front of my friend. It was only the 3 of us in the elevator with plenty of room. We gave each other a look and thought how odd but say nothing and continued with our conversation (in Spanish). Seeing that he gave no room I moved to the side so my friend would not be blocked by this tall man. As I moved over so did he, but not to get out of the way, he continued to stand right in front of my friend and the door. He never turned to us to say excuse me nor made any attempt to be courteous. He just faced the elevator the whole time with his back to us. My friend and I gave each other another look and thought well this man is rude and kept going on with our conversation. I also figured that maybe he was just standing right in front of the door because he was getting off a floor below us. But then as he walked out he said with his back to us in a muffled voice GO HOME and kept walking.

I am Hispanic and come from immigrant parents (whom I am damn proud off) and no one in America can say GO HOME. We are all immigrants. Each day I get angrier and feel the ignorance of people like that white man. From the prices being raised in order to get naturalized to borders and reformed immigration laws, it is all bullshit. If they really wanted to keep a growing economy then they should give work visas, not some lame ass point system. I am so irritated and yet I guess I am ignorant too because I was totally in shock that he (the MAN) would say that. He is a pathetic man that couldn’t tell two Hispanic women to our faces to GO HOME. I wonder if I will see him tomorrow, the jack ass!

So today I was practicing and playing around w/these new watercolor crayons and pencils I got. I'm using montaval watercolor paper and a big ass flash light and a 4 mega pixel camera. This is what happens when I am working long hours, which is really all the time.

It all started with a simple question; Do you want sushi for lunch? That was all Matt, my coworker, needed to get started on his top 10, no sorry top 20 oh wait scratch that top 47 and could possibly keep going list of what he considers OVERRATED. I decided to share on my Blog his list just because he cracks me up. Plus seeing what he considers to be glorified got me wondering as to what other people thought what’s overrated.

So go ahead post what you think is overvalued I’m curious to know.

* These are the views of one man… genius, ah OVERRATED

Correction the list KEPT GOING it is now TOP 104!!!

These are items in my home. Check out the play on the cross with the torso, the torso against the vase and within the artwork in the background. I love the layering effect of this angle.

Remaining Postive

A week later, still remaining postive, certain personal events have made it difficult, but I'm keeping optimistic. I am weirded out and trying not to think to much about it, just freaked out a little on how it is exactly a week apart and these to somewhat related events have collided again. I wonder what this next week will bring me.

Transition Year

So this year has been a transitional year. I got a new job designing for a cosmetic company, something I never thought I would do. Those that know me know that me and make up or anything BEAUTY just don’t mix. I’m much more an outdoor sports type of gal (read my cycling blog unitedzoo.blogspot.com). Now I submerge myself in as much beauty, fashion, luxury and even eco-friendly material I can find online and off.

Besides turning into a beauty expert, LMAO, I’m also refocusing on my art. This year I promised myself to start painting again and get involved in art communities. I started the year w/an art class at LACMA, but I didn’t much like it. Sitting in front of a statue trying someone else’s technique wasn’t my thing. Instead I started a new acrylic painting. I’m currently working on a political type painting, which I’ll post later. Coming back to painting and getting the feel for the brush strokes and mixing the colors is great. After work I’m actually excited and can’t wait to start painting, such a wonderful feeling.

Another transition has been from cycling to indoor rock climbing. The cycling was getting to be too much of getting up early, lugging all my equipment, trying to be safe, and avoiding being hit by cars or falling, just too much. Now my interest is hiking and indoor rock climbing. More hikes, great views. Indoor climbing more muscle aches, which in the end kind of feel good and also keeps me feeling more balanced after all the beauty intake. Good way to ah… stay grounded.

Hopefully this year I will be better at posting too. I’ll try and post frequently on my artistic progress and cool finds.

Keep Positive, it helps :-)
