Cancun, Mexico

cancun trip

Hola,

I'm back from vaca. It was a trip of many firsts and of conquering my fear of large bodies of water. I was in the ocean everyday and did things I never would have imagined I would get to do and loved every minute of it. I swam in the ocean and entered it on my own (back story - I learned to swim last year and am terrified of going into the ocean). No need for holding hands. Then I swam w/dolphins, snorkeled (minor panic attack but got through it), kayaked, zip lined above the ocean, and even went into a Cenote! It was all terrifyingly exciting and glad I did it.

As for the rest of the trip lots of shopping and good food. I was lucky to have visited Playa de Carmen during their first art walk and had a taste of the local artistry. It was very inspiring and I'm newly re-energized.

I am once again in tune w/my creative side all the loud noises have gone away and am feeling spiritually lifted. My body, mind, soul feels light and ready for another round.

Color Pencil - size: 21x24"
This will probably be my last color pencil drawing in a good while. My carpel tunnel can't take it. I will attempt to work in water color and continue painting in oils. The brush is easier on my hand.

Me @ Work

Me @ Work, originally uploaded by Susan Morales.

I've been busy again working and soon will be taking vacation to recharge. I haven't been inspired nor had energy do paint anything new lately. All my energy is going into redesigns of sites and thinking of fall catalog. I love being creative 24/7 but I need a recharge BAD. Next month Vacation! This is turning out to be a good summer.

I Become The Art

I become Art, originally uploaded by Susan Morales.

Sometimes the art wears me...

Friday 2/06/09 bunch of friends got together and just went for it. Brenda wanted to photograph me with color and I said yes. I love colors and why the hell not. My friend Kris did the hair, I've always wanted a Mohawk and this was pretty close to it. It was a blast to shoot. The paint was kids paint so it washed off easily. I would def. do it again and go even more bolder. Hear that Brenda ;-)

This is one of the photos from the shoot.

I wish I had my old sketches. Back in High School I used to draw a bunch of sketches that remind me of this sketch I did yesterday. Just random images that flowed from each other more carefree with no worry about if it made sense. This was fun to play w/geometric shapes and just let the sketch do whatever it wants.

CHANGE!!!!

sketch_012009, originally uploaded by Susan Morales.

NEW PRES Very excited I watched online via the BBC website and listened on NPR. Obama speech reminded me a lot of MLK speeches. I would note some samples but I'm too tired and have a terrible memory, call me momento. I'm glad this new pres has brought people together and seems to have motivated America into action. I can't believe we had 8 years of terrible decline and let it happen.

"Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor it must be demanded by the oppressed." MLK

Saggy Sketch

SKetch 2, originally uploaded by Susan Morales.

Drawing everyday is something I'm not in a habit of doing. So here is my attempt of doing a daily sketch... I wonder how long I'll keep this going. Day 2 of Suzie Draw.

Note on tall dude: Saw some kids today tall skinny w/saggy pants. I don't get that look at all.

Doodles of Fun

Sunday Fun Day

In the works, originally uploaded by Susan Morales.

Today I had some fun with black and white paint . Started 3 paintings 2 tiny ones- 4x5" and a larger one -20x15".

The larger one is of a sketch that I have yet been able to get onto canvas the way I want. It's a image that will not leave me alone.

Small girl painting - I wanted to paint a sketch to look like a sketch. When I'm drawing figures I tend to draw them pretty abstract with big hair. I like the look so I wanted to bring it onto the canvas.

Small Necklace/locket - just that an empty locket.

Note about today: I was painting early in the day, I usually paint in the middle of the night. Lots of noise around, drills and saws (my dad fixing the back porch), it was irritating as Hell. So difficult to get into the zone and when there are distractions its even more aggravating.
